Big Boy Skeleton Blanket

What do you make for a little man that is turning two years old, that just graduated into his first big boy bed, and that has two older brothers - that he tries like HECK to be just like, (8 years old and 4 years old), that are very very into Pirates, Skeletons, and Spooky Stuff?

You make him a Big Boy Bed Skeleton Blanket.

The Blanket is 5 feet wide by 7 feet long.
Made from MANY skeins of Wool-Ease Thick & Quick yarn. It is very thick, super soft, and very warm.
This picture shows the texture of the stripes pretty well. The skull and crossbone motif is worked over stockinette stitch. The stripes are worked over a 'waterfall' stitch; a mock cable with eyelets (i know how much i LOVED sticking my fingers through holey blankets when i was a kid ;P) that has a rather fitting name. :D

Detail of the border skull motifs and an attempt at a closeup of the waterfall stitch.

Detail of the skull. Chart for the skull was designed by Jennifer Stafford - DomiKNITrix (www.dominitrix.com)

I created the chart for the bones from an actual Jolly Roger flag found on a google image search.

Niko opens his present with some help from Mom. He is pointing out that it is, in fact, a skeleton. ;)

It fit just perfect on his brand new "big boy bed".

Checkin' it out. :D

I'm de-lurking to tell you how wonderful that blanket looks! :) My sister loves the skull and crossbones motif. If you ever decide to share the pattern...hehe.
Great great job! :)

I know I have been totally out of the loop forever, but I had no idea what you have been working on. I thought that butterfly bead purse was awesome (and it is). but you have outdone yourself!

I would gladly pay you for one for Helena! She would flip out! I must tell you what she does now, since she has seen the Pirates of Carribean. She is a girl after your and mine own heart. When she comes to the bookstore, she goes straight to the pirates display in the kids section where there is a big glossy book with Jack Sparrow on the cover, and she grabs it, KISSES HIM, and sighs saying she is in love! It is halarious!
So, I would like something like this for her, if possible. I will pay for it of course. I can't wait to show chu! *drools over you and blanket*

Re: O.M.G.!!!!!!!!
I will absolutely make one for Helena.

i have two more to make for this little guys brothers...
then i can start it.

And instead of paying me for it... how about you go halves with me for the yarn?

We will have to brainstorm on how you want it to look. :D

big boy skeleton blanket
What size needles did you use? I am trying to replicate for a 16 year old's Christmas present. I love your design.
Thanks Rebecca

Re: big boy skeleton blanket
I am pretty sure that I used size 13 for this one.
It has been almost a year... but I believe they were size 13 circulars.

Thanks for the compliment! I am glad you like it. Let me know when you finish yours! I would love to have a look!
